Spring Is Coming

After looking at my new Brooks Brothers catalog, I realized that Spring is just around the corner. Yes, it is still freezing in my neck of the woods, but things will change and the pollen will come. I hate allergy season! When the weather is in transitional mode, it can be difficult to dress accordingly. It is too warm for winter tweeds and flannels, but too cold for full blown sping/summer apparel. This Brooks Brothers ad is a good example of how to make the transition. Buying clothing in neutral colors made from linen, cotton, or light weight wool are good choices. A heavy linen can keep you warm and cool at the same time, and its natural rumple is appropriate for early spring. It is also a good idea to include a touch of color, and pink is a good choice. I also love the fact that Brooks Brothers is promoting the spectator shoe this season. The shoe is a classic, and it looks great with summer apparel. I own a pair of brown and canvas Brooks Brothers spectators, and I look forward to wearing them with my linen suits. I love seersucker and white linen suits, but save those for the warmer days of spring/summer. Come to think of it, I could use a double breasted linen suit in light brown. Let's go get measured!

What do you think of the new BB catalogue? I like it. To me it evokes a spirit of what I imagine Old Hollywood was like. Glamour and style. The spectator shoe looms large in BB sales brochures. In your pic, I like the spectator shoes on the chap at left. I understand you just got a pair yourself. I would love to see how you pair these shoes with various trousers. BTW, where are you getting your linen suits this season?

Brooks Brothers advertisements are at an all time best in my opinion. They went through a brief phase were they tried to be like Banana Republic. Fortunately, they fell under new management, and they went back to their roots. I love my BB spectator shoes, and if I recall correctly, we bought the same model. My pal Suzanne is about to talk me into posting pictures of myself, and I will be happy to show my shoe/trouser combos upon doing so. I will probably visit Brooks Brothers to look through their linen swatches, and I will go to a clothing store called Liles. They sell Adrian Jules and Coppley made-to-measure suits. Both Jules and Coppley will have numerous swatches in linen to choose from. Coppley is very reasonable, and Jules is slightly more expensive. I will be purchasing at least one double breasted model.

I may check out Samuelson & H. Freeman as well. I bought a made- to-measure suit in light gray from H. Freeman last summer.

I agree with you re BB. The Brethren are offering a nice linen blend sack sport jacket this season. I wear Samuelsohn and H. Freeman too. In fact I just bought an H. Freeman two-button sack (undarted) suit in a grey chalk stripe pattern (10 oz.) with a pink lining. I would love to see the shoe/trou combos, as I am looking for ideas and inspiration.
