Reader's Photos

Just in! I received a new reader's photo, and I thought it would be good time to post it. Take a break from all the warm weather posts for a couple days. We have a chance of snow this weekend! Anyway, today we are posting a photo of one of our reader's dad. His name is Giuseppe. So here we go, and say hello to Giuseppe!

I like his look! I wish I could get the picture to enlarge because he is wearing his watch over his cuff, and I hoped to give readers a close up. Very Agnelli! I also like the generous amount of cuff, his shirt, and what appears to be a satin tie. The only changes I would make is the addition of a pocket square, and fixing the back of his tie (it could have slipped out). Bravo! Great photo and thanks for sending it in!

Excellent photo! Very exciting. I love the whole ensemble here. Italians bring such flair to English-style suits. Amazing. Is that a sharkskin cloth? Is the shirt white, off-white, or light pink? The photo quality is poor on my monitor so I can't tell. I suspect this gentleman purposefully left the back of his tie undone and askew; many well-dressed Italian gents do this. Same thing with the watch over the collar, an Agnelli signature. (By contrast, if I tried that here people would think I was 'special'--and not in a good way). The haircut and specs are v. decent too. My only reservation is that his jacket is buttoned. In all, this is a magnificent photo and the reader who sent it in should be proud and thrilled to have such a stylish dad.

I believe Trad is correct and this gentleman intentionally has his tie that way. If you look at the tie, both of the ends are the same size. I have been searching the internet for the reference, but there is a tie maker in Italy that creates these types of ties; however, they make one end solid and the other patterned, both in the same color, so you, in essence, get two ties in one depending upon how you tie them. I have always seen those ties with both ends loose as this gentleman has his. I cannot seem to locate them, but this gentleman's tie looks the same as those, minus the change in pattern. A very nice look.

Indeed, I too agree that there is no accident here. The gentleman has tied his tie that way and fashioned the scorchetta (I believe that's the word for that kind of dimple) to achieve a bit of spezzatura. And I think that his cuff has been made with a window in it to accommodate the watch. I forget which label introduced that.

LBT - I am sorry I could not get the photo to enlarge on the blog. The best I can tell, his shirt is white and he is either wearing sharkskin or a wool suit with a sheen. And after carefully observing, I agree, the tie was purposely left undone. I like it, but I could not pull it off! I like his watch over the cuff as well, but I could never get away with it!
