Horse racing provides a great opportunity to wear clothing in very distinct colors. Particularly, it is a good opportunity to wear pastels and other bright colors not suitable for the office. There are many great races around the country, but the main attraction is of course the Kentucky Derby. I have attended some smaller races such as the Carolina Cup, but I have never actually been to the Kentucky Derby. However, I always attend a local derby party hosted by one of my good friends, and all the proceeds go to charity. Everyone comes dressed in their derby apparel, and they have mint juleps for those who want to partake. I have been preparing for this event for a while, and I bought a red seersucker suit at the end of last summer for this particular event. It is not a suit that will be in my regular rotation, but for one day, it will reign dominant.

Plaid links and an old Timex watch that belonged to dad.

Of course, a derby party would not be complete without the perfect date. If you are married, of course you take your wife. If not, the perfect fantasy date would be..............

My vote is a young Princess Margaret. I hear she knew how to have fun at a party!

Plus, don't forget to buy your lady the perfect hat. If I wear one, it will definitely be a boater.

princess margaret. i love the photo of her in the bath wearing just her diamond tiara. i hear she led quite the outrageous life. i love it!
vivid outfit.
vivid imagination.
Call me crazy, but I tend to prefer blue shirts with my own red seersucker; however, I cannot fault your shoes.
Sweet suit. I note the trousers are without cuffs. Do you have a preference one way or the other regarding cuffed trousers? I tend to cuffs myself.
Thanks Pete! I prefer cuffs myself, and all my suits have cuffs except two. However, I did go through a short period of indecision years ago. I could not decide which finished bottom was more traditional. During this period, I purchased a few odd trousers that I finished without cuffs.
The suit in the photo came as seperates. Since I do not plan to wear it often, I did not spend my usual amount to have the suit made-to-measure. I purchased the suit at a Ralph Lauren outlet, and I almost left it there because of the trousers. However, I convinced myself that I could wear the jacket with odd trousers on occasion.
ding ding ding. we have a winner. give the man a cigar.
this look rocks! how dapper/handsome!!

I went to Derby once about 28 years ago as a college student. Went with friends from Louisville. Watched from the infield where we all got sinkin. Lots of people falling down all over the place. It was like a preppy Woodstock. I assume it was a bit more civil in the expensive seats, where there were seats.
We did attend some local parties and one of my friends wore a red seersucker sportcoat that I envy to this day. I don't think I would ever want to wear the full suit but I'm a pretty big guy so I have to tone things down a bit.
Atrocious use of the language. I envy my friend, I covet the red seersucker sportcoat.
