Last weekend, our neighbors had a cocktail party, and they invited all the families in the neighborhood. My wife and I stopped by for a short while, and there is a reason for that (I will explain momentarily). For the evening, I wore a gingham check Brooks Brothers sport coat, cream trousers, pink Brooks Brothers spread collar, polka dot square, argyle socks, and my new Ralph Lauren tassel loafers. My wife wore a yellow Lilly Pulitzer dress with white piping, pink cardigan, and pearls. She was not in the picture taking mood, so no photos (sorry)!

Now, back to the story. Our neighbors are friendly, but they are perhaps the most touchy feely people on the planet. The couple in reference is a newly married couple, and they are a two years older than me. The wife (neighbor) is always all over me like glue. She ignored all her guest, and she focused all her attention on me. She continually rubbed my back and hugged me constantly. It was embarrassing! Then I looked up, and her husband was doing the same to my wife. Maybe, they are just touchy feely like I said earlier, or at least that is what I will tell myself. However, I think we will have to be busy the next time we receive an invite.

My new watch.

My new shoes.

One more look. No post this Sunday, and I hope you are having a great weekend!

Touchy-feely is definitely not WASPy.
If someone continued to hug and maul an Englishman like an excited puppy, it's highly likely the person in question would have to face capital punishment as a consquence.
J.J.
I prefer arms length for aquaintances.
Oh, I would have loved to see the Lilly dress! I have a vintage LP skirt that makes me smile every time I wear it.
And the neighbors...
They're swingers. Most def.
ok applev, that was the same thing i was thinking.. i just didn't want to say it!!!
poor richard & your wife!
I can sympathise, Richard. There are very, very few occasions when I don't balk at being touched and fondled. Perhaps your neighbours admired your fine clothes and were simply trying to gauge the fabric weight of your jacket?
the shoes are fabulous -- love the tassels and love the color. you look dashing.
I love love love your blog! I just stumbled across it by chance and have spent the entire morning at my desk reading EACH AND EVERY post. Bless you for "fighting the good fight" as my fiancee would say...His boss at the ad firm at which he works recently told him he could "knock it off with the ties." Apparently some of his OLDER colleagues felt that he was overdressing for work. What a world! It is delightful and refreshing to know that there are still people out there keeping style and good taste alive!
