This Old Chap Is Cool

This gentleman was a frequent guest on the Sartorialist, and I featured him in one of my earlier post entitled Herringbone Perfection. There is absolutely nothing that I do not like about this old chap's outfit. He perfectly demonstrates that yellow and pink can look marvelous together, and how one can wear the combination without looking like a lemonade stand. This is truly old school WASP style, and the addition of the umbrella accessory adds the over-the-top appeal you expect from an older WASP type. This picture could also be used in a dissertation about the similarities and differences between WASPs, preppies, and trads (I bet I just opened a can of worms with that statement). Anyway, I also admire the gentleman's beautifully cuffed trousers (2-inches), and impeccable penny loafers. An awesome display!

Richard,
What color socks should you wear with this combination? Or is it best to do without? Do you think Kelly green pants would also work well with pink? Thank you.

Why do I never comment on your Blog?
- I really should as we are all family now.
Here's a thought: Change the chap's shirt for an English Spread Collar & put him in English cut shoes. Lose the turn-ups or scale them down...
... And he wouldn't have been out of place at the recent Chelsea Flower Show.
Very London SW3 English Trad!
Best -

WASP, Preppy, Yuppie, Trads, Young Fogey's . . . .

Probably a lot of overlap because the underlying root is English. They are variations on a theme, somewhat different emphases, but more or less indistinguishable to, say, a Hippie or a Rastafarian!

Smashing pic, Richard. I certainly would wear this. Your comments are good. I definitely lean more towards the WASP, Anglo, and preppy end of the Trad spectrum. But, it's good to see others interpret it in their own way.

Bill,

I suggest either:

1. No Socks
2. Argyles with complimenting colors

Any yes, kelly green would work.
