This is a photo that I saw on the blog called A Continuous Lean, and I believe the blogger found the photo in some New York magazine. The article is a story about the gentleman in the photo and J Press, and of course, his clothes are J Press. The point of my post is to pose a simple question. And, the question is, can he pull it off? A month or so ago, I featured some outrageous suits from Brooks Brothers Black Fleece collection (Thom Browne). The plaid suit featured in that post seem to be too much to handle, and I have never considered wearing a madras suit. However, I am extremely fond of plaid and after seeing some of the Duke of Windsor's plaid suits, I am getting more courage. If you notice, the gentleman above has a matching madras jacket over his shoulder, and I have imagined how the ensemble would look if it were paired with the matching trousers. I can't believe I am saying this, but I think it might work. The pattern is muted, and not as bright as the Black Fleece suit. The simple shirt and tie combination also leads me to believe this might be possible. If the gentleman would ditch the hat and shave, I think he might make it work. What do you think?

Jacobi Press, may he rest in peace, is probably rolling over in his grave.
^ Or is he just shrugging & saying that business is business?
Russell.
This poor man looks like a cross between Cousin Jethro and Bozo The Clown.
Taking a classic style and throwing it in the garbage. Over-done and tacky.
You guys are right! I just need to dress up in all plaid one night in the privacy of my home, and get it out of my system. However, I do like the jacket and trousers individually.
Richard,
I still think it would be plausible to pull off a whole plaid suit, but it has to be done with caution. The fat tie and braces would have to be toned down - ideally just a simple tie. Also, I would stick to a white shirt and lose the hat. Then atleast you would appear as though it is a suit rather than a costume.
in a suit-?spike Jones meets trad gone wrong. possibly as individual items but not as a suit.

He looks like a child killer. Only you Richard would think he looks cool.
Sleazy. Although, I can understand why a certain segment of the population would approve of the specific costume on this particular young man.
In the caption section, this chap says he is inspired by "the perfect compbination of English gentleman and U.S. dirtbag."
Well, he certainly has the U.S. dirtbag look down pat.
This guy's outfit is almost bad enough to appear on The Sartorialist.
Almost.
Press does not sell their current madras trousers and sport coat together as a suit, although you could pair them if you wanted, as in the picture.
But why would you? I, for one, don't think it would look good at all.
He sort of reminds me of the movie, "Fame"- the mime guy.
Don't do it! Don't wear that suit!
