Is Peach The New Pink?

In the world WASPs, the word "new" is seldom used. Of course, WASPs have been wearing peach colored button downs for many years, but is it possible that peach and orange could be the "new" go to color for WASPs? Could the peachy hue possibly surpass pink? I personally doubt it, but I do enjoy wearing a peach colored shirt from time to time. At first glance, the color appears difficult to pair a tie with. Personally, I favor green and I think it is an elegant combination. In addition, I plan to wear the shirt and tie combination above with my seersucker suit.

My wife decided she would let me take her photo! It does not go with the post, but I thought I would throw it in anyway :)

I think this is a great combination. The shirt really works, IMO. It seems to draw the eye upwards, and the tie pocket square are tasteful. A light Peach hue just adds a nice variation to the shirt in way that pink might actually be too predictable sometimes...just a thought.

Richard I love peach! I just had the most interesting debate with a group of friends the other day. Our friend had on a shirt and no one could name the color. Some said pink.. which it wasn't... some said peach... but I said it was the color of perfectly cooked salmon. I believe I was right... but I'm a woman, when aren't we? Ha.

Even though your wife is usually shy to pose, she always looks lovely!

I try to work in a peachy shirt every so often. Alas, the two I own are oxford cloth, and it's getting a little warm for that. If I could find a pinpoint I'd buy it.

Richard: Anonymous is a pathetic troll and should crawl back under the rock from which he/it emerged. In full support of your excellent and witty blog, I remain Richard M.

Suz,

I agree, and I did delete it. Richard M, Suz is not talking about you. I deleted the comment forever, and it does not show that a comment was deleted. Another rude individual left a comment, and I guess the world is full of rude people. Anyway, I am going to go ahead and delete the conversation I had with the other rude character. Or, maybe it is the same person. Who knows.

Hello Richard,

I have been wearing peach button down oxfords (Ralph Lauren)for a number of years. While I like to wear pink the peach color is a nice change of pace. I have over two hundred neckties and bow ties however now living in Florida calls for a very casual approach toward daytime dress. The evenings are somewhat casual as well, the neckties are timeless and are always available.

On another note I found your blog innocently by doing a Google search for a photo of a white dinner jacket. Low and behold I found your site and have been fascinated by it.

One certainly doesn't need to be born a WASP to embrace the lifestyle and attire. I was born in Forest Hills, Queens NY in the '40s and have been a traditional dresser all of my life. During my teen age years I wore khaki's, button down shirts, crew neck sweaters and for dress occasions a navy blazer. A look that is as pragmatic and stylish today as ever. In those years I had two pair of shoes, both brown penny loafers.

As I got older, my sense of style developed along with my ability to earn a living. I shopped at Bloomingdale's and Paul Stuart and was and have been a fan of Ralph Lauren ever since his first wide tie made the scene in the late '60's. I have always admired British automobiles and have owned my share of them. Over the years I have owned an MG, Triumph, Six Jaguars and a Bentley (1961 Silver Cloud- right hand drive).

I now live in Palm Beach County, FL
and there is no need for my Shetland crewneck sweaters any longer. That said I remain a preppy, deeply rooted in a tradition that was honed in my youth.

Thanks for the time that you put into creating your blog. Keep up the good work. I will be following you and look forward to listening to the Ralph Lauren/Charlie Rose interview available on your blog tonight.

All good wishes, Allan Yale 1966
