When I started my blog in January, I posed a question about the usage of crested or monogrammed slippers. The blog was in its early stages, and I don't think I had any response to my statements. Regardless, the post was about wearing slippers outside of the home. The photo above is a picture from a previous post displaying an outfit I wore while having guest over to our house. Would it be acceptable for me to go out on the town wearing the ensemble above with my crested slippers? Ralph Lauren says "yes", and he elaborates further by saying that slippers are a good alternative to penny loafers when wearing a blazer (http://www.polo.com/ style guide section). What do you think?

Please ignore Ralph's advice in this case.
My thinking has always been one shouldn't wear a crest that doesn't belong to one's own family, and that slippers belong in one's own home (and not in front of company).
Do it. Don't give it a second thought. I have worn my S&W pirate slippers out. I have actually seen local chaps on a couple of recent occasions wearing mongrammed slippers whilst dining at local restaurants. One of them was wearing slippers like mine, which provoked some displeasure. Don't over-think it. You have your own style, which strongly shines through, and it does not need the commendation of others.
I agree with LBT -- do what you want and what feels right. So what if it provokes a raised eyebrow or whatever from some small minded idiot. I've worn Belgians and other slippers out, but mainly to parties, and not always black tie. I think they can be fun. Once years ago wore crested velvet slippers out to the clubs (and I'm not referring to Doubles here) and it was fun to see who "got" what I had on my feet. No regrets.
Out of curiosity, what is the crest you had placed on those slippers?
Is it me, or have we seen your entire wardrobe? Those cream pants are in many posts and by all rights should be worn out by now.
RL at other times has also advocated wearing cashmere hoodies under suit jackets. While on occasion RL will come up with some outstanding looks, his website is a minefield of things that are affected, pretentious, or just plain preposterous.
I'm with oldwordgent on this one.
My view is that only crazy people on the bus wear their slippers outside of the house. Also, the holy grail seekers in "Rat Scabbies and the Holy Grail"- but punk rockers certainly have a different style from yours!
I think you look like a nounce.
Lovely monogram!
Is it against "the rules"? Of course.
But, Winston Churchill thought it was ok to do. I think he was a "wasp" also ;)
YES!!!! I LOVE the shoes - go with it!!!!
Rich, may I call you Rich? You are definitely the best dressed male I have ever seen!
