Silly Contest At The Club

Tonight at the club, we had a ridiculous contest (who can best dress like an 80s preppy). I don't think they realized the fact that we dress like 80s preps for the most part anyway. Regardless, I decided to participate, and the only thing I could think of to add to my usual attire was a sweater around the neck. Somehow, I was runner-up with my simple addition :) The outfit above consists of: pink candy stripe OCBD, navy blazer with brass buttons, hot pink square, chinos, web belt and bit loafers.

A polo w/ popped collar under the OCBD and you might have won. And weren't there some '80s preppy hairdoos?

longwing,

great idea! Didn't think of that. I don't remember seeing any men with silly doos, but a few women tried. All I remember about 80s hair for men is that it was a little poofy.

How about some Ray-Bans?

You should have watched "Less Than Zero" before you went to the club!

I love this look Richard. Well done. I must say though, that is a rather tame contest. At my club, we used to see who could drink the most without falling over whilst playing squash.

Richard,

Nice parody -- the sweater OVER the jacket is a nice spoof.

How about this for the real thing:

A popped collar Lacoste under a OCBD and only then the sweater across shoulders -- all in pink and green. Also, high-water cuffed khakis; sockless with boat shoes taped together with duct tape.

There is a nice picture in Flusser's "Dressing The Man" of Clark Gable wearing a sweater over a sport jacket in the same fashion. If it's good enough for Gable,....

Again with those pants! Have you got patches in the seat yet?

Anonymous,

Take a closer look pal, these are chinos. Furthermore, I have numerous pairs of cream/white pants. Nine pair to be exact!

There are times that I love to join silly contest. There was a time that I'm wearing a plaid suit when I won.
