Should they be cuffed, or not? That is the question of the day, and I seek to find a conclusion to this query. Ralph Lauren does not make chinos with cuffs unless they come with pleats. The same can be said for Brooks Brothers as well. Actually, there are only a few traditional clothing stores that produce khaki chinos that are unfinished. Orvis and J Crew come to mind, and I am sure others may think of a couple different stores but there are not many establishments. So which is it.....well, I prefer cuffed flat front chinos, but I do own several pair that are flat front with no cuff. Which is proper......I actually say both cuffed and un-cuffed flat front chinos are acceptable (I actually own one pair with pleats, and no cuff.......however they are not preferred).

Like most iTrads, I like plain front khakis with cuffs but it's more trouble than it's worth. All my khakis end up looking like hell after about 6 months so I've taken to buying them off the shelf as is.
Richard,
You are aware that the nation is in peril and that we have real and big issues to tackle? I know you have been sick as of late, but come on! Are you really that concerned about whether to cuff or not cuff khakis?
do you really want this blog to get political again? i don't! :)
anyhoo, i think the guy in the first photo looks like he just finished a nice walk on the beach. it doesn't look like he's ready to hit the town. but maybe a nice crisp cuff would look nice???
"The nation is in peril"?
Indeed it is: From people who attach no importance to how they dress.
Cuffs have no place on khakis, pleated or un-pleated.
I prefer no cuff, no pleat. I think it comes down to preference. I just like a clean look.
I prefer cuffs on all my trousers, except blue jeans, shorts, or formal wear. That extends to khakis, regardless of pleated or not. I have a couple of off the peg pairs of khakis without cuffs, but I generally buy them too long and roll them up to have pseudo cuffs.
Anon 8:46, please go and get a life this website is a forum for discussion of many things, including if you haven't noticed clothes...
Coming from the UK, a gent wears cuffs on all his trousers including a crisp pair of pleated, cuffed chinos/khakis. The only time I do not wear cuffs ? Jeans when gardening !
I've got both. When they are pleated, they always have cuffs. My narrower legged, plain front chinos take cuffs, but the wider legged WWII spec sort are simply hemmed. Just depends what decade I'm emulating.
Pleats = cuffs, no pleats = no cuffs. Anything more, and I become thoroughly confused to the point of needing to call in sick to work...hey...maybe I'm on to something.
I'm a pleat and cuff man myself
At one point in time, I was all about the cuffs. I just don't like things unfinished.
However, I have loads of RL chinos that do not have cuffs. I usualy wear thes when I am with my daughter running around. I don't have to iron them, or a lite iron will do.
I have found that chinos with cuffs are harder to maintain.
As for Anonymous, come on man that's what this site is all about. We are ALL very much awear of what's going on in the world. No we do not choose to put our heads in the sand, and think that we are above it all, but choose to go on living our lives. You should do the same.
Richard,
I find that it depends on the occasion (whether or not I cuff my chinos)
If its casual/warm = cuff
formal/cold = no cuff
I just like clean look and prefer pants with pleats.
