More From My Week Off

As I look back at my week off from the responsibilities of life, I want another week of the same pleasures. The photo above is nothing special at all, but it is an example of my extreme casual attire. This is my t-shirt and jeans look if you will. On this particular day, I sat around the house watching television and goofing off. Eventually, I decided to ride down to the club but I didn't feel like picking out another outfit. So, I grabbed a trusty blazer, and put my pooch in the car and we were off. The club doesn't mind me bringing my pup with me on occasion since he is so well behaved. He doesn't bother members and he stays by my feet. Anyway, later that evening a member walked in who wanted to talk politics. I wasn't in the mood, but he continued to engage me and he insisted that I had to vote for Barack Obama. I will not discuss my reasons, but I assured him that there would be snowballs in hell before I would ever consider voting for Mr. Obama. Regardless, the gent would not stop badgering me, but during the badgering I noticed his shoe was untied. Furthermore, I noticed my boy chewing the end of his shoelace, and I decided to continue this debate. When I noticed that the pooch was finished, I ended the debate. I walked away still planning to vote for McCain, and he walked away with chewed up lace. He did notice the lace finally as we began to leave, and he cursed as he wondered what happened. I told him not to worry, Obama would fix it :)

Rainbow Sandals

For hundreds maybe thousands of years, sandals (or flip-flops) have adorned the feet of men and women around the world. Recently, I purchased a pair of Rainbow Sandals made of hemp. They have a canvas like texture, and they are very comfortable. Do sandals have a place in the WASP wardrobe? I think the answer is "yes", but with some limitations. Self identified modern day preppies are guilty of wearing flip-flops with pants and even with blazers. This is not a look that I approve of, but I do approve of wearing sandals with shorts and a polo in the summer. Just last week, I wore my Rainbow flops with a navy polo, pink oxford cloth shorts, and madras belt. I guess the moral of this post is sandals are appropriate in one's wardrobe, but don't go to extremes and wear them with a blazer and tie.

My Role Model

We all have people we admire in life, but in general I don't believe in heroes. However, if I had one, mine would be a gentleman by the name of FT (initials). He is perhaps the classiest gentleman I have ever met, and he has one of the most extensive wardrobes on the planet. He consoles me often by telling me that my closet is better than his was at my age. FT is always spotted wearing his horn rim glasses, and he is dressed to perfection from head to toe. He is an expert at mixing patterns, and his collection of linen and tweeds are unmatched. In addition, he has one heck of a shoe collection. One of my favorite pair he has is a Ralph Lauren brown loafer with a red, blue, and yellow ribbon on the buckle. FT is also quite the ladies man and he has remained unmarried his entire life. He currently dates a 27 year old babe and he is 55; however, he doesn't look a day over 40. He can also be seen driving around in beautiful old cars. His collection includes a vintage Jaguar, 1974 Mercedes 450 SL, and a Jeep Grand Wagoner with wood paneling. What is funny though, he is actually a rival and competitor in my business field. However, we get along well and I still admire him.

WASPy Hair, In My Opinion

A reader recently commented and asked me to elaborate on WASPy hair. The following photos are some examples of WASP hair for men in my opinion. The basic premise for WASPy hair is for there to be a side part, or a swoop to one side. Extremely short hair, hair parted in the middle, or really long hair is definitely not a WASPy haircut.

Madras Pants And Crazy Stories From My Past

First, I want to thank all the loyal readers that encouraged me to keep the blog, and to officially say I plan to keep going. The week I took off a couple weeks ago was much needed, but life has continued to be stressful with too much going on at work. Anyway, the week I took off gave me a chance to revisit days of fun and games, or also known as days without responsibility. I also took a break from suits and ties, and wore a lot of casual clothing. I thought I would post one of the casual outfits I wore that week, and tell a story from my crazy collegiate past.

It all began my sophomore year of college, and of course there was a lovely girl involved. Julie was my dream at the moment, but one thing stood in my way..........her 22 year old boyfriend. Regardless, being the crafty schemer I was, I decided to pursue her anyway at all cost. I tried flattery, sweet gestures, and numerous other ways to penetrate her heart. She was always half way receptive, but she reminded me that she was taken at the end of the day. Frustrated and impatient, I decided to help things along and it was time for drastic measures. Fortunately, I had befriended several of her sorority sisters, and I would need my closest friend Ivy to help.

As my plan unfolded in my mind, I decided to write a letter to Julie confessing that I had cheated on her with a girl back home in her boyfriend's home county. Oh, I forgot to mention the letter would be written by me, but signed by her boy. I did my homework as well. I found out who he had dated in the past, and I made the girl he cheated with an ex-girlfriend. The letter was typed and sealed in an envelope with a stamp and return address (her boyfriend's). Now, this is the point when Ivy was needed. Ivy would often get Julie's mail for her, and I had Ivy to place the letter in Julie's mail. I hoped that she would not notice that it had not been through the postal service, and she never noticed. Of course, Julie was enraged by the letter, and even though poor boyfriend swore it wasn't true, Julie now had doubt in her mind. One week later, Julie dumped her boy, and I began dating her the next week. Julie was great for a while, but I soon realized she wasn't worth all the trouble and I dumped her. In the end, I realized that I had more in common with Ivy, that little minx.

A New Movie That Intrigues Me

I saw a preview for a new movie the other day, but later I found out that the movie is a remake of the 1981 film based on a novel. Regardless, the story seemed intriguing with portrayals of deceit and infatuation with a great looking brunette. The clothing and old home in the preview is certainly aristocratic, and I imagine the clothing will be fabulous throughout the entire movie. Other than that, I know absolutely nothing about this movie but I am starting to think from this photo that the chap on the left is infatuated with the gent on the right. Anyway, I posted this picture because of the outfit on the gentleman on the right. The fair isle sweater is beautiful, and I like the muted wool trousers. Now, the chap on the left, well........I hate his sweater and scarf! Anyway, if my assumption is correct about the gentleman on the left, I certainly hope someone makes good use of the sexy brunette in the movie trailer. It would be a shame for such a beautiful creature to be left alone. Also, posted below is a photo from the movie in 1981, and I have no clue why the one gentleman is holding a teddy bear.

The beautiful brunette is on the right!

Argyle & Tweed

The fall catalogs and mailers are starting to arrive to my home from my favorite stores, and it appears that argyle will continue to be a centerpiece for many collections. Argyle is a beautiful fall pattern for fall sweaters, and I love pairing it with a tweed sport coat. Other than the popped collar, this add is a perfect example of how to pair argyle with tweed. In addition, the haircut on the gent is classic and very Ivy League. Cold weather, please come soon !!

More Blair Waldorf....I Couldn't Resist

After posting about Chuck Bass again I decided to post another picture of the lovely Blair Waldorf. She is wonderful, but her counterpart Jenny is growing on me!

Beautiful Illustration From A Day Long Ago

I can only imagine a time when people dressed like this on vacation. Regardless, I truly desire the suit in the illustration in a brown hue, and I am thinking linen. Beautiful!

Chuck Bass Revisited

As sad as it is, I have to admit I have enjoyed watching re-runs of this past season of Gossip Girl. My wife is addicted and though I would never admit it to her, I kind of like it. My favorite character is one that I have mentioned on this blog before (Chuck Bass). Chuck reminds me of an exaggerated version of me at that age, and I love his sense of style. Sure, it can be a little teenager influenced at times, but overall he is what I call a dandy WASP. I love the jacket and olive bow tie in this picture, and I like the belt in the one below (I know the collar turned up is terrible). I actually have a belt similar to the one in the photo, and I have a red seersucker jacket similar to the one pictured. Overall, I like the show and there are some cute girls on there as well. Blair Waldorf.....got to love Blair.

Red Brodie Sport Coats, Overworked, & Considering Quiting The Blog

I apologize for being so slack of late! I didn't post Friday or Saturday, and my post is extremely late today (Monday). I have taken on several new clients at work, and I am working my butt off but making lots of money. I have considered retiring the WASP 101 website briefly or permanently. I am still deciding but in the meantime, I will try to post everyday except Sunday as usual.
Anyway, I saw this sport coat on-line at Brooks Brothers and it is on sale. I actually first saw it a couple years ago, and it is now on their clearance items. I love the brodie plaid, and I think it would be great for evening wear. I would substitute it for a tux jacket, and pair it with black monogrammed slippers. I may just have to purchase it.

The Silk Dupioni Suit

Of all the suits I own, I do not own a silk dupioni suit but I have always been fascinated by the possibility. I have considered the purchase on many occasions, but my tailor assures me the suit will be ruined if stained. And considering the cost to own such as garment, I have stayed away from the purchase thus far. However, the silk dupioni still remains one of my most coveted items, and I intend to purchase one before I die regardless of what my tailor says. Prince Charles is featured here wearing a beautiful dupioni, and the Duke was quite fond of the silk fabric as well.

WASP 101 Girl Of The Week

Okay, she isn't real but we all wish she could be! Or, we know someone we would like to see in that pose wearing the same outfit. Regardless, I like the photo! Have a great one!

Shop It To Me

I was recently contacted by an organization called Shop It To Me, and they asked me to check out their site. After investigating, I found that the site can be quite useful for the man or woman on the go. Basically, you tell them your sizes and favorite brands, and they notify you when the items go on sale at various stores. For example, if you tell them you like Brooks Brothers trousers in 32 X 30 and Ralph Lauren shirts in 16 331/2, they tell you when Brooks has a sale with shirts your size and when any store carrying Ralph shirts are on sale (with your size). Again, it is a neat concept for the person on the go, and I recommend checking it out. http://www.shopittome.com/ They also have a blog ( blog.shopittome.com).

I Am Ready For Fall

I am already tired of the humidity and heat, and I am ready for the coolness of fall. I am ready to pack up the linen, seersucker, and madras (all of it). Is it because I don't like the fabrics? No! I hate the heat. Of course, then I see beautiful ads like this Ralph Lauren feature, and my mind is taken to a world of tweeds and fair isle sweaters. This look is amazing actually! I love the tweed jacket, sweater, and trouser combination but the details accentuate the entire ensemble. The web belt, ribbon watch band, bow tie, etc. All of these details are classic Ralph Lauren, and the accessories help one to achieve that old money preppy look. In addition, notice the worn leather on the belt. I can't wait for fall!

I Am Taking The Week Off

I have been working very long hours lately, and I have been sleep deprived for weeks. Therefore, I am taking the week off, and I am staying at home to rest and do some things I want to do. I might even rent a convertible for the day! I will be back next week with new posts, and thank you for being loyal readers.

WASP 101 Girl of The Week

I think Ms. Hatcher is 42 now, but I still adore her (not that there is anything wrong with being 42). I remember watching the Adventures of Lois & Clark (Superman) just to see Terri. I have even watched a couple episodes of Desperate Housewives to see her beautiful smile. WASP 101 salutes you!

Norfolk Jacket

I love this jacket! I have heard of and seen Norfolk jackets before, but this photo makes me want one for this fall. Does anybody know where to find one? Gorgeous!
