Pink & Hunter Green

As we all know, pink and green is classic preppy. However, as the air has been cold for some time now, I prefer pink and hunter green for the winter. Combine the combination with a little camel, dusty rose, and yellow and you are set. Actually, you can just wear the shirt and trousers, but I chose to spice it up a bit.

I like this twist on the original. However, pink and green as I knew it growing up in Bedford has been so bastardized by wanna-be old schoolers that I will neither wear it nor consider those who do legit prep any longer.

Try a little starch in that collar. It works wonders.

While I like the colors you’ve done here, I have to question the color choice for socks. I personally would have kept it simple with a green sock with maybe a few flecks of yellow in them, or if I wanted color, gone with a yellow sock or argyle with green, yellow, and maybe burgundy. The choice of shoe works very well with this, and I would have disliked it if you had gone with a saddles shoe of bluchers, however a suede shoe would have also worked well for this outfit. Over all, I like it all with the exception of the socks, and the OCBD with the ascot. I personally am not a fan of wearing an ascot with a button down. Had you gone with a spread of straight collar light pink shirt; could be stripped as well, I would have given an A+. However, due to the items I have listed I will have to go with a B+. Looks good though over all.

Wonderful pics, Richard. This ensemble, with the pink et green corduroi trousers, brings back lots of memories for me. I would not have thought the sock colour would work--but it does! I think your clothes are appropriate for a PR executive/entrepreneur. There are times I wish my field allowed such freedom. Well done. Very inspiring.

Nice jacket. At first glance I was guessing Burma dinner jacket.

And what a SLIMMING EFFECT it has, too. Wow !!!

It brings out the hour glass in ya, Richard.

Good job!

How is it that the previous pics had a hip heaviness to them? Too small a jacket is my guess. Narrowing the shoulders and then fabric billowing out below the belt, bulging at hips, giving the illusion of a larger lower body than is the reality.

Compare the two pics and see if you don't agree? It emphasizes the importance of fit.

Richard, you should do a side by side post, with measurements of the jackets. The smaller clothes are nice. And I like them a lot. But, they are not becoming like this outfit.

BTW, pink isn't required. Any of the yellow to golden shades would probably do it better, IMHO.

Thanks. I have learned something.

Not bad - you've done worse - but the overabundance of Polo is getting tired. My credo tends to be buy the "original", or close to it, whenever possible. E.g., rather than buy Polo tie mocs for triple the price, buy original L.L. Bean or Quoddy ones that Polo is ripping off...not only are they cheaper, they're probably better made and represent the original design and intent of the shoe. I see this trend a lot in your pics/posts...and there's not much that's preppy or WASPy about buying overpriced, copycat stuff...it suggests "contrived" (as does the ascot) and, while I have no concern with how you're spending your money, the reality is that the copycat brands are many times more expensive than the older or original makers - and, I like to think that financial prudence and rationality is a true preppy/WASPy hallmark.

"nonchalance"...that is the key to true WASP-itude...they never look like they're trying hard, and frankly they're not because the couldn't care less.

If I'm wearing a crisp shirt, I offset it with something more grounded, like a well-worn leather belt, or a broken-in pair of shoes. I try to avoid the "first-day-of-school" look.

This one I like. Good pictures, nice looking clothes.

You look great, but I think you should have worn your bass weejuns. Just my take.

What a great look. The ascot is wonderful. I echo the sentiment that a bit of starch in the shirt would enhance the whole look.

I'm always a little confused by former colonial subjects refering to the cravat as an "ascot". An ascot in Britain has a slightly different connotation (if a similar though not identical shape), being a wide tie worn in the normal four in hand manner IE below the collar and tucked into a vest - where as the cravat is worn as you have it in your picture. (Very nice it looks too). I myself am an enthusiastic wearer of the cravat and the bow tie - both garments that draw odd looks in modern Britain...but then any garment without an elastic waist draws funny looks here nowadays.
PS. Yes I'm aware that all ties are cravats.
PPS Only kidding about the colonies...don't jump down me throat!

Would've gone for a double leather-soled shoe with this combo. Also, not sure about the pocket square color. Otherwise looks great.

Yes, please do a "slimming effect" comparison.

I have looked at the pics several times. I think the slimming effect is due to the dark trousers.

I agree, though, that the khaki trousers of the previous day or so did make the model look bottom heavy.

your jackets seem short on you. do you have a bubble butt that stcks out to make you look so short and stocky?

Hi Richard

I'm all for learning the technology of what clothes have a slimming effect. It is something almost all men approaching middle age have to deal with.

Good luck. I am hoping you can take this into consideration in your future post. Or do a solo post on the topic.

That said, I can't understand why someone would start slinging around barbs like "bubble butt." That stuff just doesn't serve the audience. It is both cruel and childish.

Thanks for not letting such a person bait you into returning tit for tat.

I don't think anything works here. Steer clear of bottle green it sucks as a colour.Plus the socks and Shoes=normal?
The Jacket would be fine with light grey flannels , Suede brogues and white long pointed shirt with deep amber paisley design tie.
