This photo of the Duke with his niece Elizabeth is one of my favorite Duke pictures. I think it is the combination of the hat and the heavy checked overcoat. Anyway, it is a classic!
Beautiful combination. Again, it would look stupid if one wasn't the heir to the greatest throne in the world (to quote Winston Churchill). It's unfortunate this man was not able to carry on as King, marrying an American twice-divorcee really is incompatible with the British throne, just look at Queen Mary's face when she heard of his plans!
Richard, Maybe you explained this in the past and I missed it, but could you share how you became aware of the Duke, and could you also share your opinion of what yout think of him giving up the throne? Thanks.
I'm sure Richard became aware of the Duke when Richard's father attended an Ivy League school with him. Unfortunately, all the yearbooks burned in a fire, so Richard can't produce a photo.
I learned of the Duke while earning my history degree, and I first saw him sartorially while reading Alan Flusser.
Would I have given up the throne for Wallace.......NO!
Anonymous,
My father's house did burn to the ground, and I can't help that you find yourself miserable and still pondering whether or not he attending an Ivy League school. Get a life man!

He would look much more regal in a porkpie hat!!
You both seem like gentlemen who would be considered "Dandies" or "Fancy Dans". You seem to carry on in a rather fey manner.
I know you wear ascots and bow ties-why not try scarves?
Whom are you referring to when saying "You both"?

I for one am not crazy about the hat :)
