The Last Days of Winter Tweed

As the weather remains around 60 degrees in my neck of the woods, I continue to make use of my winter tweeds. I cherish them so much that I wear them until the temperature breaks 70 degrees. The outfit I am wearing in the photo is how I will begin my Monday. Featured in this photograph is:

Brooks Brothers Tweed
MTM Shirt
Brooks Brothers Flannel Trousers
Polo Club Tie
Polo Tassel Tie Loafers
Brooks Brothers Paisley Square

Yes, the cold will soon be gone, and I will again embrace my warm weather tweeds, madras, and seersucker suits before long.

(This post is a little early, but it is Monday's post)

looking very sharp sir. I myself would be a sweaty mess wearing that in the 60 degree weather. I have a nautica "barracuta" type spring jacket that I wear over my shirt and tie, but it would be removed once the temp hit 60.

Richard, please do a post on WASP groom style. And then comment on East Side Bride's blog so you get some exposure. Even WASP men frequently get married, right?

Richard,

Good score on the sports coat at the last of season sale at Brooks Brothers. That tweed jacket will come in handy next fall and winter if you keep the weight off between now and then and the $199 sale price is not too over the top for the fused (glued up) construction, nylon lining, and plastic buttons.

Now from the rest:

As for the made-to-measure shirt: the degree of puckering below the collar suggest the neck size is wrong. I would wear this shirt the next time you have a batch made so your tailor can see what is wrong and what needs to be corrected. Tip: When wearing a spread collar you really should tie a bigger knot. That might actually help conceal the puckering and keep this shirt from be relegated to a paint smock right away.

As for the trousers: The cool gray tone (even takes on a greenish hue) of the trousers seems at odds with the warm tone of the jacket and the seude shoes. I think a mid gray or even a charcoal gray slack would be better for that ensembel while the pant you have on would work better as an odd pant paired with like hued sport shirts or polos.

As for the shoes: I like seude and I like loafers, but that shoe appears to have a flat sole without any heel like a deck or boat shoe which makes it too informal for that ensemble. I would pair that shoe with khakis or jeans instead.

The good news is you will have all spring and summer to find better pieces to wear when you bring that jacket out of storage.

I would wear some brogues with this instead of the loafers

The Brooks jacket is a MTM Golden Fleece version. It is a little upgraded from what you described.

The shirt does have a strange pucker in the picture, but it is not due to the wrong neck size. I think it is just the fabric, which I hate by the way.

The trousers are a light brown, and the photo does not represent their true color.

The shoes are not boat shoes. They have a heel, and a full leather sole bottom.

Pulled my tweed out for probably the last time last week. It was 75F here in N. Texas today.
Good-bye old friends, we'll see you maybe in October, November at the latest.

A portly fellow with meaty hands dons tweed.
