Gingham Shirts

After more than two weeks of rating the best dressed men and women of all time, I am pooped. And to make matters worse, it was 91 degrees this past Sunday and we are expecting more of the same for the rest of the week. I hate hot weather, and I have considered moving to Alaska (not really). Anyway, with hot weather brings new wardrobe items back to the front of the line, and for church Sunday I began to dress for the weather. On this particular Sunday, I chose a deep purple gingham shirt as my centerpiece. I combined it with a blue blazer, lightweight cream trousers, bit loafers, rainbow grosgrain watchband, polka dot square, and no socks. I even skipped the tie which is rare for me. So, onward we go to the hot of summer, and let's bring on the seersucker and linen.

(1940s Vintage Hamilton - Brooks Brothers Ribbon Band)

Great vintage watch - real sharp. But, I'd be careful with all the conflicting patterns - gingham, stripes, polka dots....it's a little much.

Just yesterday I was mourning the loss of my old watchband collection while scanning a pic from the 80's. Those and add a beads.

I have a light blue gingham from brooks brothers with the golden fleece logo. Very sharp. I also agree that I wouldn't wear it with the polka dots...

Glenn Beck from Fox News is a big wearer of gingham...maybe you could post some of his outfits...

I have to agree with anonymous. I like everything you've put together here, but I'm not so sure about the band. Do you not have a solid band, or even one with just two colors?

Love the watch - have one myself - never fails to draw rave compliments on how elegant it is.

Watch strap - other business. I reserve grossgrain for more casual wear- simple black leather accentuates the beauty of the watch.

cheers

Richard,

Now that you're done with the best dressed lists. How about making a "Quintessential WASP Icons" list and allow your readers vote on the top 5 all-time WASP iconic people. These would be people not only dressed in the classic WASP style but led a lifestyle that best represent the style? I think that would be a very interesting list.

Richard,

If you're pooped, you should tell your "friend" Worthington to take over for you for a few weeks.

Purple gingham is without doubt a good thing. As are your watch and watchstrap, Richard. Nicely done!

Rumor has it that Worthington is unavailable to take over because he's working as a schoolteacher:

Is this so?

You seem to have a small and delicate wrist

That's the full correct link for Worthington the schoolteacher. The one you gave was incomplete.

Here's another one:

I love the watch, but I hate the band. A brown leather band would make that watch stand out.

I love Gingham suits and I love linen suits as well. I'm hoping to finish a design course so I can make my own suits designs.
