Prescott Bush - Old Money at Its Best

Old money definitely has its advantages over new, but heck, money is money. Regardless, the look that most trads crave is the WASPy/Old money look. Ralph Lauren has become a billionaire from selling his interpretations, and stores like J Press and Brooks were part of the beginning foundations. I mean, I don't understand why society would not want to look like Prescott Bush. Tweed jacket, OCBD, and bow-tie(well Prescott isn't wearing tweed, but you get the picture).......how does it get any better.

Oh yeah. He wore grey wool suits even in summer; he always looked fantastic.

However, he was a world class snob.

one of your most simple-minded and superficial posts ever

He's not wearing an OCBD in that picture either. You're really losing it, PST.

Bowen - Thank you for noticing

Anonymous - Yep!

Old money?

Surely one can do better than that?

How much are the descendants of Sen. Prescott Bush worth TODAY?

I always felt the family wealth was greatly downplayed during elections.

Or that figures were used from a family member's personal income, when the vast majority of the families wealth was in a trust or otherwise hidden from view. Possibly in foreign trust.

I'm not a conspiracist. Just saying there were huge loopholes for hiding wealth back in FDR's time. And in later years. And Sen. Prescott Bush had been a Wall Street banker. Their tax attorneys knew all the legal angles.

So, that said, does anyone know the true value of this "old money?"

Are you thanking Bowen for saying you're losing it or for noticing that he wasn't wearing another piece of clothing you said he was?

Also, why would you list items that he is supposedly known for and then not even take the time to find a picture where he is wearing those items? You look either lazy or a fool.

Yes, very interesting question. What is family net worth today?

Note the pin Sen. P. Bush wears on his lapel.

Can anyone ID it?

Is it the pin of a secret society?

The Bush family is a political dynasty that is hated by many in the northeast, yet the Kennedys are loved and adored despite all of their recklesness and controversy over the years.... I do not understand this.... I think George HW Bush was a great president, and Jeb and George W are not as bad as the mainstream makes them out to be....in my opinion the Kennedys have exhibited far worse behavior than the Bushes

Nice post. Prescott Bush was a respected squash player. At the club in Greenwich where I used to play squash, there were awards and championship plaques on the walls bearing his name. -- AC

"Prescott Bush, the father of Bush 41, was an avid player in the 1920s and 30s and in fact got to the finals of the 1932 Greenwich Invitational, the year before it was turned into the national doubles tournament."

Good question. What is the lapel pin?

BTW, I have no political comment on the Bushs or the Kennedys.

In glancing thru the post I was unable to discern which post stimulated that reply.

The Bushes were in the skull and bones society at Yale I believe

Tweed? No.
OCBD? No.
Bow tie? Yes.

Well, one out of three isn't bad. At least in baseball.

Before Prescott Bush made his money, the Bushes were Ohio-based nobodies. Bush 41 had relatively little money until his mother died and he inherited that pile in Maine. After leaving the WH, Bush 41 made tens of millions peddling access through the Carlyle Group in Washington, DC. Bush 43 has about 10 million, largely the result of his brief involvement with professional baseball.

Whatever this is, it's not Old Wasp.

(A J Press suit does not turn a family of fixers into a paragon of old-style elegance.)
