The Christmas Season provides us with numerous opportunities to sport plaid trousers, sportcoats, and wear boisterous holiday sweaters (more to come on this topic). One does not have to be festive to be a WASP, but these are some appropriate plaid items that I selected to demonstrate what one should wear if you choose to do so. However, if you wear a plaid jacket, keep the trousers and the tie simple. The same for wearing plaid trousers......keep the jacket, shirt and tie(optional) simple. More to come!

We are plaid or tartan mad in these parts. I have ties, jackets, waist coats, and socks in festive tartans. The wife has kilts and what not in them as well. I have always worn a solid tie when I wear the jackets or the waist coats. Having said that and I realize it's not a picture of you I'm not sure of what I think of the combo the gentelman from the Ask Andy Trad Forum is wearing. I don't hate the look I'm just not sure of it.
Time to permanent delete the WASP101 blog link/icon from my desktop.
There is a difference between WASP/TradIvy/TNSIL clothing and clown costumes!
Doesn't one of the old guard stores sell corduroy pants embroidered with candy canes and/or holly?
Also, which tartan is that last coat?
I think the problem with this blog is that true preppiness is effortless--it doesn't require obsessing over clothes. If you grew up in a old money neighborhood (Georgetown, Upper East side, Charleston Battery area, Beacon Hill, Buckhead etc, went to a prestigious prep school, and attended W&L or Princeton or Virginia or Trinity etc, and have traditional tastes, there's really no need to meddle with favorite brands or demonstrate one's preppiness.
Sir Richard,
Nice to see that you believe in Freedom of Speech and have shown it by publishing "Old Trad"s comment!
Anonymous - Read the title....WASP 101.....this is to help those who didn't grow up with a privleged life, and to help them dress and fit in with those who did. For those individuals, advice and help is required. In addition, this is a forum for those who don't need any assistance to talk and communicate.
Anonymous 1, I used a reverse color search at http://www.house-of-tartan.scotland.net to find that the coat is King George VI Royal Family tartan.
@Anonymous1, I think BB does.
@Richard, Just ran across your blog today. I like your style. Why no recent posts? I hope you didn't stop on account of the seemingly relentless trolling. You must have really upset someone lol. What about limiting comments to only registered users? I think that if someone has anything good to say, they would be willing to register.
I look forward to reading more.
@Proper Trad, I'm not an expert, but I recall seeing these same pants in last year's Brooks Brothers winter catalog. That would make them pretty Trad, unless I'm mistaken.
I also saw no reference to similar trousers in my issues of Clowing Quarterly or The Proper Pantomime.
Richard, I apparently don't know how to read a blog and didn't realize you made posts this year lol. If you would, don't publish my first comment. My suggestion still stands about anonymous, though.
