Headed to the Beach......See You In a Week

Jeeves & Wooster

Last year, I bought the entire four season set of Jeeves and Wooster, and I spent a great deal of the weekend finishing up the set. First, I love the shows, and I particularly love the surroundings and clothing. Each show is simply eye candy with old world tweeds and double breasted town suits. Plus, the comical plot and watching poor Wooster struggle through the day is hilarious. The show almost makes me wish I had a gentleman's gentleman (no gay references please....you all know I am straight as an arrow).......anyway, those days are past. Alrighty, I am headed to the coast and I will see you in a week.

Prescott Bush - Old Money at Its Best

Old money definitely has its advantages over new, but heck, money is money. Regardless, the look that most trads crave is the WASPy/Old money look. Ralph Lauren has become a billionaire from selling his interpretations, and stores like J Press and Brooks were part of the beginning foundations. I mean, I don't understand why society would not want to look like Prescott Bush. Tweed jacket, OCBD, and bow-tie(well Prescott isn't wearing tweed, but you get the picture).......how does it get any better.

Uniforms or No?

First, let me apologize for my absence. My computer at home and work has been having great difficulty, and I could not access Internet Explorer. It appears that the problem was caused by my new updated security program, and all appears resolved for the moment. I will be traveling to the beach next week, and I will not be posting next week. So, that means I will have a post for tomorrow, Saturday, and Sunday.

Now, for the photo above.......First, I love it. Second, it brings me to think about uniforms for public school. Unlike my father, I attended public school because of sports and did not have a dress code requirement. However, upon reflection, I believe that things would have operated better at the education institution I attended if we were required to wear uniforms. I believe that a basic shirt and tie requirement would do wonders for education, and possibly stop some of the classifications that students make toward each other. Then again, maybe I am just a blithering idiot :) Who knows.......

Blazers & Shorts

General George C. Marshall

I am going to hold off on the Girl of The Moment until Sunday (though I usually do not post on Sunday), and focus on a clothing combination that has always intrigued me. Shorts with a sport coat/blazer, and even better with a tie is something that requires total confidence. True, there a only a few occasions to sport this look while maintaining appropriate dress, but a few occasions such as vacation and informal club functions come to mind. I have never sported this look, but I plan to do so for the first time while on vacation in the next couple weeks. Given, my fair complexion my need a spray tan first, but I do plan to try it.

Just For Giggles.........

A little over a year ago today, I posted the famous Ask Andy v. WASP 101 post. It was the post that help bring WASP 101 alive, and just for kicks.......I am posting it again. Enjoy!

It appears that a forum by the name of Ask Andy Trad Forum takes a keen interest in WASP 101 and its readers. WASP 101 was the topic of one of their threads in April if I am not mistaken, and once again, we are the subject of one of their recent threads. What do they say about me and the blog (WASP 101)? In their first round, they argued about whether I was for real or pulling everyone's leg, criticized my clothing, argued whether I was truly WASP or "trad", cried because I received hits on my site, questioned how a WASP could want to date a Jew (Natalie Portman), and basically criticized everything I did because it wasn't really "trad". I laughed and found it all amusing, and personally I could care less.

Recently, the Ask Andy crew is back at it again, and they have taken their whining and griping to a new level. They exclaim how repulsive and disgusting I am, and they continue to point out how I am not a gentleman. They found my recent post about my conquest to pursue a college love disgusting, and I am just inhumane for doing such. They continue to criticize my clothing, viciously poke fun, and they show up at WASP 101 as anonymous commenters to leave vile and crude remarks. A couple of them were almost in tears because they thought I had stolen their photos from their thread. Obviously, they don't read blogs and see that people use other's photos often, and they always credit the source. I credit everything possible, and I credited the forum for their photos, but I guess they don't think it is stealing to post my pictures and writings for their dissimulation. I really don't mind if they use my photos and commentary, but they shouldn't have double standards.
http://www.askandyaboutclothes.com/forum/showthread.php?t=84941

This is what I have to say to most of the readers at Ask Andy Trad Forum (not all--there are a few good chaps). If you hate my blog so much, quit reading it! I don't seek your approval, and I never will. Contrary to the beliefs of many Ask Andy posters, I do not post on your forum, and I would never subject myself to associating with the likes of most of you. You guys find me vile, but have you listened to yourselves talk? Never have I criticized someone's blog or their work, but you guys want to rip everybody apart if they are not part of your little club. You guys exemplify ultimate snobbery, and it is cowardly how you do your bad-mouthing on your little thread and post as anonymous readers on WASP 101. My stories are tame at best, and I have never been sexually explicit in any way. I personally think most of you are jealous of my youth, success, and maybe even my wardrobe. You hate that you don't have the guts to have a blog like mine, and you hate stories of my youthful girl-chasing pursuits because you were the guys who always feared talking to girls. I am the guy you always hated because I got the girl, and most of you are probably still living with your parents dreaming of that perfect girl that doesn't exist.

In conclusion, I will give a short list to describe each site, and I encourage the readers of WASP 101 to check out the comments at Ask Andy Trad Forum. Again, I don't care what these guys say about me, but I do care about the implications their comments give toward my readers. So' I say let us critique them and show them how it is done like true ladies and gentlemen. I am sure many of them (anonymous trad commenters) will have plenty to say, so let's not let them take over our blog for a day. Let's show them who's boss!

Richard's Quick Critique of The Two Sites:

WASP 101

1. A site dedicated to celebrating and exploring classic WASP style, but a sight that welcomes everyone and believes anyone can be a WASP.

2. A site that demonstrates items from my personal collection, and the photos are often accompanied by a story from my day or my crazy past. The stories are never sexually explicit, and fall somewhere between PG and PG-13.

3. A site that celebrates beautiful women.

4. A site that offers style advice, but doesn't obsess with trying to determine if someone is WASPy or not! Some people are trying the lifestyle out, and it would be a shame to run them off because they lack a cuff on their trouser or have darts in their jacket.

Ask Andy Trad Forum

1. A site with a large group of men who talk about things they believe are "trad" or "not trad". Some of them seem nice enough, but many are obnoxious, and they do a lot of whining. They consider themselves to be gentlemen, but they often tear down individuals piece by piece to make themselves feel superior in some way. They are obviously compensating for a lack of something.

2. A site that is not accepting to outsiders, and they are consumed with the definition of "trad". Elitism if you will! Personally, I don't think they understand much more than a blazer, khakis, and a repp tie. There is more to being "trad" than that.

3. A site that celebrates some really poorly dressed men, like Howard Dean. How in this world can anybody think Howard Dean is stylish?

4. A site that is clearly obsessed with WASP 101 and its author Richard. They are clearly jealous, and they whine constantly about his exploits. They obviously desire to be like him but can't.

That's my assessment, what is yours WASP 101 Readers?

My Top Five Blogs: Number 1 - Maxminimus

Sorry for missing yesterday's post! And now.....coming in at number one is ADG the author of Maxminimus. ADG has one of the best collections of clothing I have ever seen, and I really enjoy the personal side of his posts. I truly consider ADG the best of the best in the Trad blogsphere.

And yes, there are many other blogs that I enjoy which includes all Society Members. Hillbilly Debutante is a hoot, and Kathie you would have made the top ten :)

My Top Five Blogs: Number 3 - The Trad

Photo Credit: The Trad (If you want me to remove images....let me know)

Ahhh my friend TinTin! We first got acquainted with the famous Ask Andy feud that took place during year one of the blog. Since then, I have grown to respect the chap, and little does he know that a lot of my family went to Chapel Hill for their collegiate careers (partly why I know the Carolina's so well). He refers to himself as an a**hole in some posts, and he is probably most famous now for his Friday belt editions. Though I do wish he would post more clothing and stop buying belts to keep this Friday thing going (jokes...kinda). Regardless, TinTin is an alright chap in my book and I enjoy his blog. The pictures I have chosen are my two favorite combinations he created. I was so impressed to see that he wore LL Bean Duck Boots with a bow-tie and tweed, and on the second suit (which he referred to himself as an a**hole wearing) if you ever want to rid yourself of it.......let me know. The same goes for the tweed jacket as well. (If we are close in size of course).

Seersucker and Tattersal

As promised (though late today) photos of yours truly. I will continue with my favorite blog postings on Monday, and post the girl of the moment sometime late Saturday night. Since this post is at 4 o'clock on Friday, I will let it run through most of tomorrow for commenting.

As warm weather begins to fade, we only have until Labor Day to wear seersucker. And so often we see seersucker with white shirts and pastel ties. Today, I decided to pair my seersucker with an eggshell lightweight tattersal shirt and repp bow tie. Personally, I think the tattersal in eggshell compliments the stark white seersucker ensemble. Someone like me with a fair complexion looks a little washed in stark white, and eggshell works well for me. Plus, the tattersal is a nice compliment, in my opinion. To finish the outfit off, I paired the suit with my new pair of saddle oxfords from Crockett & Jones.

My Top Five Blogs: Number 4 - An Affordable Wardrobe

Photo Credit: An Affordable Wardrobe (Hope you don't mind...if you do, let me know and I will remove it)

Coming in at number 4 is the master thrifter and very creative Giuseppe at An Affordable Wardrobe. His ability to thrift amazes me, and I do sometimes envy his finds and combinations he creates. Like the author at Ivy Style, I don't think he is a fan of mine but who cares. I like his site anyway.

My Top Five Blogs: Number 5 - Ivy Style

First, before I begin today........let me say thanks to the loyal readers. I can't believe this many people still read my blog (I have really let down lately). However, I am trying to post regularly the past few days, and I do promise personal photos for Friday.

However, today I do want to start a piece called my five favorite blogs. They are in order with the number one spot being my favorite. Coming in today at number five is Ivy Style. Though its author has been critical of me in the past, I do enjoy his blog. He is well connected in the fashion world, and this is obvious because of the many interviews he has published (Boyer, J Press, etc.) I do wish he would post daily, but he obviously does some extensive research which can take some time. Congrats, Ivy Style.....though I know you will not care, you are number five on my favorites list. (PS...I really enjoyed the article that went with the photo above)

Fall Is Soon Coming & Thinking of Corduroy

Fall will soon be on the way and as it approaches, I begin to think about tweed and corduroy. Last year I swore I would buy a wide-wale corduroy suit, but failed to do so. I am thinking olive green??? The Duke of Windsor wore corduroy, but he did so mostly during warmer months. Many other fashion icons have sported the look as well. I will report what I finally decide to do......... Oh, and I promise photos of yours truly by Friday.
