Rugged Friday

Obviously, I am posting very late on Saturday night, so I suppose this makes this a Sunday post. However, this has been a quirky week, and why not expose my work week on my blog. Moving on, yesterday I revisited a common theme with clothing that I practiced on a regular basis while in college. While prepping for the morning, I reached for the clothing I had layed out the night before. The clothing included my chinos, blue blazer (3/2 Roll, 2 Button Sleeve, Flap Patch Pockets, Patch Breast Pocket), and blue candy stripe oxford cloth button down. Surprisingly, my mood changed with a moments notice, and I grabbed a neatly pressed flannel shirt from Vineyard Vines instead.

In my humble opinion, all WASPy characters need a couple go to flannel shirts in the winter. My personal favorites are brightly colored ones as pictured, and flannels in shades of various colors of olive and red. Don't even think about trying to add a neck-tie to a flannel shirt.........just wear it with your jacket. And there you go, you have got a rugged appeal with a dressy charisma mixed with a blazer and chinos.

Only one button on that blazer?

Love the jacket with the patch pockets. Seems to fit quite well and it looks good with the pocket square and chinos. Sorry, but the patterned shirt isn't working for me. Perhaps I'm too conservative.

Otherwise, nice ensemble.

Best,

Ryan

Flannel is great, of course, but I'd rather see you in Viyella.

Pocket square is superfluous and out of place with this outfit

Looks GREAT. Have a great weekend!

Great idea. I wear these shirts all winter long, and they work well with a heavy wool blazer. I have a navy blue one in camel hair that's perfect with flannel shirts. Viyella is ideal if it's thick. Otherwise good cotton works well.

TradMan - It is a 3/2 Roll, the 2nd Button is hidden because of the angle I am standing......look at the first picture.

Neatly pressed flannel shirt from Vineyard Vines...with a blazer.
Despite the photo looking okay, I am boggled by:
1. Ironing a flannel shirt.
2. Flannel from Vineyard Vines.
3. Wearing a flannel shirt with a sport coat, especially a blazer.

I'm a big fan of flannel shirts. I have a few old ones that the wife keep threating to throw away. I have never tried it with a blazer, but I think after seeing your photos I might have to try it.

Southern boys don't call them chinos old sport.

New England boys don't call them chinos either, unless they work at the Banana Republic. I don't know why I sound so rude here, but I would never want to see my husband in a flannel shirt unless it was under a tweed shooting jacket and it would need to be, of course, in the country. But, you seem to have your own style, that's for sure.

No tie with a flannel shirt is not an absolute; in the right combination/circumstance it can work quite well with a cashmere knit tie.
