An Evening Lawn Party

This afternoon, I attended a lawn party! And, as many of the readers may know, lawn parties are certainly part of the WASP ritual. The event was held in a truly old money neighborhood, and I was swarmed by blazers of all sorts.

Though I would typically consider wearing my cream linen suit to such an event, today I broke out my new J Press Blazer. The blazer is a lightweight 120s wool, and it wears very cool. However, the lightweight wool also means it wrinkles easily, but with 90 degree weather one can tolerate wrinkles. Other details include the typical features of a J Press garment: 3/2 roll, sack finish, and hook vent. I paired the blazer with a blue bengal stripe shirt, club tie with little umbrellas, yellow oxford cloth pocket square, cream linen trousers (heavily rumpled and part of my cream linen suit...they were pressed when the day started but these photographs were taken upon my return home), and my new Ralph Lauren bow - tie loafers (not their official title but it's what I call them, and no, they are different from L.L. Beans moccasins....these shoes have leather soles).

The party was again amazing, and I had the opportunity to truly be near my kind this evening. Does saying that make me a snob? Possibly, but I don't care!

This is remarkably simple and understated, given your penchant for overdoing it.

There's something a bit off between the casual shoes and stiff collar, but the colors and patterns are clean and classic.

It all looks great! I'm a push over for that kind of shoe - anyting with ties or tassles. The tie is killer! And J. Press is the best.

Good luck.

Superb! This is one of your better outfits, IMO. Your prep-WASP style is so much more appealing than what the dry, crusty Ivy League-Trad geeks wear. This is very inspiring. I think the traditional neck tie looks better than a bowtie. And those shoes...! Well done.

I know your condo is furnished with laminate floors and machine made rugs, but what is this now - a sleeping bag? a giant napkin? Enquiring minds want to know.

The plaid flannel bed sheet in the floor is to protect those machine made rugs from a sick dog. Though he is doing much better! Thanks.

C'mon now, does that Polo shoe more resemble a Camp Moc or a Weejun? Besides the sole, I think the answer is obvious.

I really do not understand why Ralph put leather soles on moccasins with rawhide laces through metal grommets.

Why is there a clock on the floor?

When it gets into the 80s I sweat profusely in ANY blazer, even my crumpled linen ones. How do you southern boys survive it?

I have your blazer's twin, and I am still amazed at how many different "looks" can constructed with that one garment. Your look is classic, hence timeless. You're in your early thirties and I'm past seventy but that exact outfit would still look good on me. (As good as can be expected, that is!)

Glad to hear your doggie is improving.

Who gives a crap about where the clock is.....anyway, it is on the coffee table....you can see it if you look closely.
