Tartan Trousers, A WASPy Alternative

If you are looking for a WASPy alternative to gray flannel and khakis for your navy blazer or camel hair sport coat, then try a pair of tartan trousers. The key is to keep your shirt and tie very simple. I love wearing my black watch plaid trousers with my navy blazer, and I have displayed a plaid pair of trousers with my camel hair. Try it out, you may like it!

Richard,
A serious question from someone who enjoys this blog: How many pairs of loafers do you have? By my count it has to be at least 50.

I have not done an inventory in a while, but your guess is probably close.

In addition, I have truly been blessed, and I should share more of my clothing with the readers. I have only begun to scratch the surface with my photographs.

Love the navy knit tie. I've been sporting one with a faint blue shirt and charcoal suit lately.

Very nice.

And yes, you are the loafer king! (Coming from a fan)

You hit the mark on this post, sir. There's no better look than sporting a pair of blackwatch tartan trousers and jacket in the colder months.

I still feel like tartan's should be limited to the holiday months for fear of looking like christmas out of season.

Thoughts?

Why do you call one jacket a navy "blazer" and another a camel hair "sport coat?" Are navy versions always blazers and camel hair ones always sport coats?

Dear Richard - Now that you have established yourself as the "Maven of Wasp Style" perhaps you can enlighten us on the Politics of Dancing!

I applaud your embracing of simplicity and not overdoing it.

Good combo, though I could never wear tartan trousers - either wool or madras - without being laughed off this planet.

^-The secret is to expect that people will joke with you. You definitely can't take yourself too seriously when wearing these.

Ad some go-to-hell fun socks and your velvet Stubbs & Wooton's for your next holiday get together!

The plaid (or tartan) trouser thing is mostly an American style. Be careful with it in the UK or on the Continent.

I love your loafers.

DO you get you ideas from just copying the latest fashion releases from Polo?

I'd like you to prove you are a WASP. When and where did your family arrive in Europe? What country were they from? What is your occupation and that of your parents?

I have been following your blog for a while. Great info, your style has inspired me greatly in my own fashion and clothing selection.

Keep up with the great work and do not be bothered by your very few detractors.

God bless!

Richie,

Why don't you just shut this blog down and save us the trouble of wasting our time every day checking for a new post?

Or, alternatively, why not just have the courtesy to inform us when you next expect to illuminate us?

Try Brooks Brothers, J Press, J Crew, or Polo. Hope you find what you are looking for.
