Corduroy Suits

Credit: Polo Ralph Lauren

Corduroy suits have been featured on my blog from time to time, and I must say that I continue to covet one in a wide wale. These beauties are not just for college professors and artists, but for the WASP who wants to look proper in the country or at casual functions. So visit your handy dandy tailor and have one made up. It is the WASPy thing to do!

A good tailor is the only way to get the color right as well.

Heavy cotton rarely makes sense to me. I guess it's a nice break from tweed, but wool has less bulk, more warmth, lasts longer and is less apt to wrinkle.

My tailor has literally said that bespoke cotton suits are a waste of money.

Obviously one should not tuck sweaters into waistbands as shown in this photo.

Thanks for the picture of the WASP in the corduroy suit. Looks Great!! And you really made your point!

Interesting how there are no comments. I guess this is because people are afraid to be called racists for asking how this chap qualifies as a WASP.

"... for the WASP who wants to look proper in the country or at casual functions." Really? Do you live in a Jimmy Stewart movie?

I was born in southern New England during the Truman administration and I can't remember seeing corduroy suits 'in the country or at casual functions'....or anywhere here. Corduroy jackets, yes, but otherwise strictly flannel.

And please tell me that you haven't adopted the tagline "It's the WASPy thing to do!" Very un-WASPy.

Please, ol' boy, spare us. Nice suit, but the thing in the photo is not a WASP. Fortunately, given the propagandistic nature of the US media, I've become used to such absurdities, so I've managed this morning to enjoy my tea in peace despite your efforts. ;)

Bookster in England will make you one for a fair price.

Wide wale only, with no bespoke necessary. A cord jacket goes well with anything. It's a bit less formal than most tweeds. Leather buttons should be required.

By the way, "WASP" is a state of mind and a question of style, not a color.

"it's the waspy thing to do!" is that like your new commercial jingle... it might lure advertisers? kind of like "by mennen."

Perhaps his [Y-W-P] bow tie is on too tight.

Listen, we all know that an Afro-Americans, Jew, or Italian are not WASP. The name it self speaks for it's self.

Though; and this subject has gone on and on on this blog, Richard may or may not have the right perception of Waspdom, I feel it unfair that other American's are excluded, from living a lifestyle they believe in. What does it say about this country that we still harbor such ignorance? I would have thought that people such as Luguna would have more of an open mind due to their education, apprently I was wrong, and have found that no matter how much education one has, they can still be a dope.

Corduroy suits are for little boys...

Richard, I have just stumbled upon your blog while doing a Google search for a Brooks Brothers gingham shirt.(currently my favorite shirt pattern). While I am a midwest Jew, I too wear the style that you call WASP. The cord suit is a wonderful yet imppractical garment. The cord jacket is a must, and I have several. Please keep the racists comments to a minimum.

The tucked sweater is a cool look when properly presented. RL does it all the time. In the 80s, I tucked my sweaters into my pants and *gulp* wore suspenders at the same time. Makes a boy feel put-together.
