Without question, ties have changed throughout the history of the fashion world. Even in the dark caverns of WASPiness, the slimness of ties have varied. However, historically, WASPs and preppies have worn slimmer ties. Personally, I think slim ties look great with button down collars, and slim lapels. Just remember you can go too slim, so be cautious. Anyway, I guess bigger isn't always better!

Richard, another nice outfit! good turnout!
I'm gravitating more to bow ties these days. Check out the Southern Proper bow ties or the fun new line of bow ties Brooks Brothers offer thes days.
Keeps the soup spots off the ties.

Bigger always is better, but I suppose a slim tie works in a pinch as well. *wink*

Just my opinion, nothing more, but your coat is too short. It should come down to the first joint/knuckle of your middle finger. If the coat has much of a hem, you could have it lengthened.

This jacket is indeed a bit short. However the lapel width is in proportion with the tie width, which was not the case yesterday.

Women: stop leaving inane comments.

I only wear ties of a solid colour, blue in honour of the King of France, red for my regiment, black for most occasion. White for holy days. I never, never have a dimple, it was not done in my regiment. All my ties are wool.

Great post on thin ties! If I may offer a defense of wider ties...
