Club collars are very WASPy, but a better description might be Ivy League. I absolutely love the handful that I own, and I am thinking of having three or four club collar shirts made at Brooks in oxford cloth. In addition, I am thinking of experimenting with one of the shirts by having a button down stance placed on the collar as pictured above. What are your thoughts?

Hmmm... the collar in the photo certainly looks good.
I'm thinking the style looks a tad feminine.
Would this be called a Peter Pan collar if it were on a ladies' blouse?
The buttons detract from an otherwise fine appearance.

Whether it's called a club or golf collar, it makes no sense as a button down. It needs a collar pin.

Sorry but I think you need to get out more!!!
Richard - Club collars are very Trad and evoke the ethos of the Ivy, Space Race and "Can-Do" Attitude of the Kennedy era.
Suggest you go old school with your initial club collar shirt acquisitions opting for those that are "pinned" versus the eyelet or button down models that were duds then and will be duds in the future.
One of my personal favorites is a BB MTM I had made up two years ago with a yellow pintpoint body, white collar and white French cuffs with no breast pocket and block letter Kelly green monogram at the leftside beltline!
Happy hunting!
Gawd I hate club collars. They seem so collegiate, so stunted, only little boys would wear them.
Club collars are fey
I have an old Tommy Hilfiger shirt, from the early days when he actually designed the clothes, with a club collar and a tab that snaps under the tie to lift it slightly and keep the collar in position. I can't find anything like it these days.
If your face is full or even borderline chubby, stay away from the club collar. This kind of collar looks comical on anyone but the fit and trim.
I also agree with some of the other commenters. It can seem a bit feminine or youthful. Although for someone with a confident, cheseled look, this collar can be distinctive.
Choose this collar with caution.
Go for it! I have a button-down version from Ralph Lauren's Rugby line. Since I wear a lot of club collars, it's a nice, more casual, change of pace (I prefer it with a knit tie and jeans) from the "pinned" look I wear with my suits. I agree with the others that the club looks best under an athletic, square jaw.
BTW, aside from my clubs from RL, BB, Ben Silver, J Crew and some nice vintage finds, I've had some regular shirts nicely converted to a club by Mr. Maldonado at collarreplacement.com.
Cheers.
