Some are born and breed to be WASPs, and some grow into it as they age. As for me, my father went to Yale, and I grew up on a gentleman's farm in the countryside. I was influenced by WASP style from birth, but I didn't grow to appreciate it till I was in my early twenties. Sure, attending public school to play on a better basketball team was a large part of the setback, but it did teach me to deal with people outside my caste.
Regardless, anyone can move toward a WASPy lifestyle if they so choose, and included in this post is a guide from an extinct magazine called Vitals . The starter kit of clothes is one of the easier things to acquire, but the nose in the air attitude can take years to perfect.

Where did you go to school, Dick? I have heard you mention your father's school several times. Have any other of your family (mother, siblings, etc.) get out to the Ivy?
How about some references to home decor. Starting to decorate a new home and am searching for ideas across the Web. Any help you could offer (other than RL Home (not that there's anything wrong with that)) would be much appreciated.

Well done. Careful, though. Guides like this resemble a sort of 'Identikit' for aspiring preps from non-WASP backgrounds. It's about more than just the correct clothes, school, etc..
Growing up I was deeply immersed in the prep milieu (as well as Sloane in the UK). From first-hand experience I've come to feel pity for WASPs, especially WASP males, who, I've noticed, lack vitality and virility. After decades of assault by Judeo-Africans, and betrayal by their own leaders, WASPs have been beaten down and pussified.
Such a shame.
Chicken houses =/= "gentleman's farm"
Your corn-pone WASP act is worse than that "black WASP" crap. Why can't you just admit that you like to play dress-up? Why the need to invent membership in an elite "caste" to justify running up online purchases on your Brooks Bros. credit card?
You write like someone who went to college on a basketball scholarship.
Wait, what caste is below "southern poultry farmer"?
Richard -
I did not realize you came of age in India. Learning about their rigid caste system must have been an enlightening experience for you.
To which college did your father belong while at Yale?
Do you have any Richie Rich comics?
"born and 'breed' to be WASPs"?
Were you sad when your father went to Yale and left you to grow up on that gentleman's farm in the countryside?
Richard-
Don't let these losers get you upset. My grandparents were farmers just like your father. But you know what? They worked hard and saved their money and sent my father off to college. He ended up getting his medical degree and being able to provide for his parents AND his kids. He sent me to college, thus allowing me to get my degree. So don't let these haters tell you you aren't high class just because your father was a farmer!

The answer is "people who work in PR."
It is almost as if Vitals is deliberately trying to be even more obtusely clueless than the worst iGent bloggers. Pink socks with formal wear? Ugly claw belt buckles? Crummy but overprioced Tag watches?
And is anyone really paying a c-note for Bass Weejuns?
WTF? These rubes consider an NRA window sticker to be preppy? And towns where actors are spotted? What a bunch of dunderheads.
Esq. _ I prefer not to say where I attended school in order to protect my identity. However, my mother did attend and all girls college named Salem.
Anon. 12:47_ Why can't chicken farmers be gentleman farmers?
Anon. 2:05_ Shut up !
Anon. 2:42_ The people who clean the chicken sh*t up!
Anon. 3:28_ Had I grew up in India and belonged to the Hindu faith, I am sure I would be a grasshopper or something! I was really bad in my youth.
Carlton_ These trolls who have the marbles the size of a three year old have to blow off steam via the Internet. Were they to say such in the presence of real men, they would be left standing in a puddle of piss.
A sheepskin or two from prominent colleges and universities are definite assets in today's hyper competitive world.
The issue is not which school you attended but whether if you honed your critical thinking, communication, analytical and leadership skills and possess a positive and ethical approach to life that matters most.
Feeling secure in one's own skin is perhaps the most valuable asset of all.
I love this whole basketball excuse for not going to an Ivy League school. You could have stooped for Penn or Princeton, right Richard? They always went to the tournament anyway.
