Tommy Hilfiger Fall 2011 - by Richard

As you may know, Tommy Hilfiger has now attempted for two seasons in a row to return to his original prep glory. And though, I give Mr. Hilfiger an "A" for effort, I still doubt I will buy any of his attire. Yes, I like pieces of his collection, but there is just a tad too much effort being placed here to acheive this prep persona.

Agreed. Also, as most of Tommy's lines are made for scrawny young boys, any guy with more than a 40 inch chest and 15 inch arms can't even fit into his shirts and jackets.

Any idea about the home that was used for the shoot?

The words "too much effort being placed here to acheive this prep persona" are truly ironic coming from you.

Funny you write on Hilfiger. I was just thinkning about that line the other day like a "What happned to that guy". Hilfiger was the rage back when I was in highschool. He dominated Macy's in Downtown Sacramento. Now all he gets is a corner shared by Nautica.

Good post, thanks!

An observation: the ad campaign strategists at Hilfiger have for some time seemed to have taken the over the top approach in pushing their theme. In stark contrast, those at Sperry Top Siders would seem to have taken a much more understated avenue.

Granted, the former has an entire clothing line to push while the latter, is only pushing footwear. Which one is more effective? Which one do you prefer?

Jauregui has a point. TH did have some prep school cred about two decades back. Long time ago. Became a ghetto brand by Y2K.

The over the top bric-a-brac TH shoots do seem a bit familiar to this blog's author at times.

I have no idea if Nautica was ever any good or was always just a hype factory selling overpriced substandard blandness.

I think the Hiliger campaign does a disservice to Trad clothing! There whimsical approach cheapens the look!
Again bad marketing choices to attract youth market who don't have a pot to piss in.

Well said, Mr. Mosby. Have you seen the latest Brooks Brothers catalogue? It is all geared to young people, who as you so eloquently put it.....don't have money. My friend Bernard is the older gentleman in this Tommy Hilfiger ad. He was, for many years, the main model for Brooks Brothers. He told me after all those years they fired him becuase they wanted younger models because they were trying to reach a younger demographic. Broke my heart. Not just because they fired my friend, but also because I feel that Brooks is one of the last places on earth I can buy classy women's wear.

The past two seasons' Hilfiger ads have been based on The Royal Tenenbaums movie. Note "The Hilfigers" wording, the beagles, the afros and the sports equipment. Last year's ads were even more literal. I appreciate the company's traditional approach with slightly more modern fits and colors. It helps the masses dress better.

I dont feel that they are trying to hard to be preppy, when you think tommy hilfiger you think preppy they dont have to try. On a marketing aspect the variety of age and number of people ad for mor coverage and a growing aspect for the company
