Clearly An Oxymoron - by Richard

How can putting cheese on a triscuit be considered a cook book?

I know nothing about the subject author or her book. However,
the subject fare and similar spartan offerings are essential elements of the WASP preprandial experience!

I have found that most people, both lettered and uneducated, today are under the misperception that WASP means something flashy, expensive or tres chic.

In reality, nothing could be more incorrect!

This is because simplicity, durablity, superior value & utility are hallmarks of WASPdom!

Nothing is more "WASP"authentic than a dollop of Kraft Philadelphia cream cheese, or small wedge of Cabot VT/NY cheddar on a Triscuit! Why? Because they magnify the taste and bouquet of the accompaning glass of Scotch, rye, Irish whiskey or Kentucky Bourbon preferably served neat with a few rocks.

Suggest you read "The Protestant Establishment: Aristocracy and Caste in America" by Digby Balzell to refine your insights into both WASP mentality and gastronomical perferences.

Traditionally, Julia Child and the Rombauer sisters are considered the mavens of WASP cooking. As evidenced by recent postings on her website, I believe that Muffy Aldrich is their current heir.

Alternately, Ina Garten, Giada "The Twins DeLaurentis and Anthony Boudain are definitely not members of this club because their cooking is more sophisticated and no doubt tastes

The parallel is best explained by and automotive analogy. Most WASPs believe that a cherry 1969 Mercedes 280 SE or 1940 Ford Woody are preferable to a new Ferrari purchased off the Neiman-Marcus catalogue, especially if the Merc or Ford were owned by Grandfather or Grandmother and the cost of acquistion was zero.

Most WASPs still reflect the spartan values and lifesytles of their predecessors.

God help the Bush clan with cute Lauren just marrying into the Lifshitz brood!

It was a joke at the expense of the WASP population.

Alexandra Wentworth was on TV (Seinfeld) and I think In Living Color. She is a good woman, but she married George Stephanopoulos, (former Bill Clinton Henchman)
