Reader's Question - by Richard

Richard, what was your first preppy outfit you can remember?

The first outfit I can remember is a navy blazer with brass buttons, a navy and red regimental bow tie, khakis, and wee little penny loafers. If I recall correctly, I was about four years old. In addition, my mother was a Beatles fan, and I had the hairdo to match.

In a Polo ad, of course.

Richard You are asked many questions, and this is the only one you answer? What type of WASP?Prep hasn't dressed in this style from birth? Another interesting situation.

Why would you lie about flying to DC for the afternoon? Really, you should aim for both more believable and more impressive lies.

Sounds like the perfect everyday dress code item. I beleive most of us wore exactly the same thing and some of us still do. There is no better look for a four year old or a thiry four year old.
This is the perfect timeless and never out of style type of clothing that will serve almost any purpose, event, or daily activity. If only we could see more of this.

It was in The Preppy Handbook, which happened to be in Daddy's library.
Or did you mean in real life?

I've got a question: Richard, why do you lie?

Anonymous said...

What did Richard lie about?

Anonymous said...

Agreed. At this point, it's hard to believe even this.

Richard, when did you get your first ascot?

Richard said...

If I lie, why do you read this blog?

Ascot? About 8 years ago.

Hey guys, I find a lot of Richard's stuff to be full of "stuff". But, at this point, who gives a f&#k ? Move on. Do you want him to say "ok, I lied"? What's that going to bring about? Closure? It's his blog and if you don't like what he writes...true or not...then read another blog. It's rediculous that every post since the "flight to DC" story has comments about the freakin' flight to DC. I live in DC and I don't believe it but so what? Leave the guy alone and move the f&@k on...or get a girlfriend, well boyfriend for most of you fashionazis, or a dog or a life or something. You know, find some other fulfillment besides picking on this guy's blog. I think he's BSing of it most of the time but these incessantly catty comments are getting to the point where you all pick on him like this is middle school. Build a bridge...and get over it. Just move h#&l on.

Agreed- the content is good and Richard is entertaining. We aren't banking with him so leave the embellishment be.

Still an excellent outfit, though I've proceeded from khakis to grey flannels.
