Christmas Day - by Richard

Dressing for Christmas Day is always a fun experience for my household, and to me, nothing says Christmas like plaid. The outfit above is an appropriate outfit for Christmas morning, and it has inspired me to wear one of my tartan blazers Christmas Morning. Merry Christmas....the countdown has begun!

I believe the official WASP uniform for Christmas morning is flannel pajamas...which certainly may be plaid/tartan....and a bathrobe....unless you are going to Church Christmas on morning and that is your frame of reference for this post.....but nearly without exception...the WASPs in this region go to Church Christmas Eve....that said....Merry Christmas....

Well, this WASP always liked to look good for Christmas morning photos, and my family dressed before opening presents. As a kid, we were allowed to run in the living room to check our stockings, then shower, breakfast, and then gifts.

I have a lovely chunky knit cardigan that I had been planning to don on Christmas morning... starting to rethink that now, having seen this pic! Lovely jacket. Merry Christmas!

Seriously: you will wear tie and jacket (and vest!) for Christmas morning?

Fantastic!

Why are the lapels so huge?

The tartan scale is a bit big for my tastes, but the real atrocity here is the collar pin with a button-down. Always wrong.

That looks to be a Campbell tartan, which I could wear as I am a Campbell descendent.

I have a black watch coat I picked up second hand. Already dumped $75 bucks into it. Nice pure wool fabric. It's still too big on me. Is it worth another $50 to $75 to make it fit well? I paid $3 for it originally.

I love the coat and just picked up, second hand, for $3, a well-tailored black watch sport coat. It's a nice wool. Beautiful.

Problem is that it's not well tailored for me -- way too big, and someone closed the back vents. I thought for sure there were vents when I bought it...

I dropped $75 so far and it's still too loose, boxy in the shoulders and 1/2 inch too long. Is it worth another $50-$100 to get it tailored to fit?

I've looked around for similar jackets and they are in the multiple hundreds of dollars brand new.

Baron von Shtuppin, are you married to Zsa Zsa Gabor?

Soup, It would likely be worth $50 more, but it sounds like more work than that amount. With thrift items, the purchase price is so negligible that I always ask the alterations tailor up front if it they think it's worth it. They have plenty of work and would rather keep a customer than waste time on a doomed project.
