I haven't worn a bow in my hair like this in ages. However, seeing this image of a velvet bow has made me wonder if I have neglected a potentially very useful accoutrement.
Bows just have a very juvenile, almost infantile, association in my mind. A small silk ribbon probably wouldn't register, but more showy oversize stuff like this makes it look as if some schoolmarm gussied up her child and will be giving her an all day sucker next.

A conservative color and fabric might extend that a bit.
