Yesterday, I went to a cookout that I did not want to attend because of the 100 degree plus temperatures. It was so hot, that I could barely stand to tie my bow tie. Attire for the evening:

Brooks Brothers
1. Bow Tie
2. Linen Trousers
3.Watchband

J Press Belt

Polo Button Down Oxford

Vintage 1960s Hamilton Watch

Bass Camp Mocs (not as good as L.L.Bean, but I got a good deal)

Desiring Fall Weather

Every summer, I quickly grow tired of the extreme heat, and with temperatures above 100 degrees, this year is no different. Fortunately, I live in a state that also has cold winters, and I desperately yearn for the crisp cool air of fall. Even though WASPs enjoy summer, seersucker, and madras.........I truly believe that WASPs are much more comfortable in a fall like collegiate setting. Days like today make me desire my tweed suits, fair isle sweaters, and cool tartan bags as pictured above. I can't wait for fall!

Double Breasted Suits

Double breasted suits come in and out of style in the world of trends, but they have always had a home in the WASP world. Prince Charles and the Duke of Windsor live(d) in them, and one would make a good addition to your closet. Personally, I own three and have considered buying more. The trick is to make sure it is a well fitted suit, and my advice is to have it custom made.

The Linen Suit

With temperatures above 100 degrees, one is limited to only few options when trying to stay cool. One WASPy option is course linen! Many fear the suit because of its natural rumpling appearance, but in my opinion, it is without question a blue blooded suit. I own two linen suits in tan (like pictured above) and cream. The only other color I find acceptable is navy. Stay away from these new modern interpretations.....they just look, well, cheap.

Good options to pair with linen:

Grosgrain watchbands
club ties
suede tassel loafers
saddle shoes in ivory and tan
suspenders

I Would Actually Watch Golf, If Golfers Still Dressed Like This!

I love watching golf movies set in decades past to see the surroundings and clothing displayed. It was truly a sport for gentleman, and then came blasted pop culture and polyester. Blast!

Desired Shoes

I own several pair of camp mocs which range from Bass to Ralph Lauren. However, the pair that has always eluded me is the crocodile skin version made by Ralph Lauren. I have spotted them on occasion on eBay, but never at the right price.

If you are curious as what to wear these shoes with, try khakis or flannel trousers. I don't find them appropriate for a suit, but they do pair nicely with your odd coat.

To Pop or Not To Pop

Though this chap looks natural with a popped collar, the rest of the world without Ralph Lauren stage directors looks silly with popped collars. A popped collar has long been associated with preppy/WASP style, but it is just not an element that I ever admired. Honestly, I think it is a sign of a pretender and teenage immaturity. So, do yourself a favor and roll your blasted collar down.

Favorite Bond Girls

Every WASPy guy has admired the world's most famous fictional spy from time to time, and of course, I am referring to James Bond. The series creates numerous topics of debate from favorite car, actor, etc. However, my favorite topic of debate is favorite Bond Girls! With their infamous names and good looks, WASP 101 will do a two part post displaying some of my favorite Bond Girls. In the end, I will proclaim one winner and name my favorite of all time. In the meantime, who is your favorite?

Vesper Lynd, Casino Royale

Naomi, The Spy Who Loved Me

Miranda Frost, Die Another Day

Xenia Onatopp, Goldeneye

Pussy Galore, Goldfinger

Paris Carver, Tomorrow Never Dies

Plaid Carpet

This photo is one that I found while surfing the web, but I cannot remember where I found it! Regardless, it is a beautifully appointed room, and it has begun a quest to find this style carpet for my home office. It just doesn't get any more old world or WASPy than this!

Is My Father Proud of Me?

Photo: Polo Ralph Lauren 1986

All sons, particularly WASPy offspring ask themselves this question at some point in their lives regardless of their closeness to their father. Most WASP offspring belong to successful parents, and whether your daddy made his own fortune, inherited it, or married it, you will ask yourself this question at some point.

In my case, I honestly don't know the answer. True, I have been very successful in life, and at 33, I hope I have only begun. However, I did not follow in my father's footsteps, and I did not join the family business. Only once in my life can I remember my father telling me he was proud of me, and I question whether he meant it or was just saying.

In the end, one should not worry. Most fathers love their children, even if they have a funny way of showing it!

Some Photos From The Preppiest Movie of All Time!

Without question, Making The Grade is the preppiest movie of all time! The only movie that even comes close in my opinion is School Ties. Enjoy the photos!
