Tennis - by Richard

Tennis is truly a WASPy sport, but I am afraid that today's player lacks the WASPy appeal that was once there until after the 1980s. Wooden racquets, tennis sweaters, and cream blazers are the hallmark of a once very preppy sport. And of course, grass is the preppiest surface to play on.

Still have my two wooden racquets, a Dunlop, and a Wilson Jack Kramer Prostaff! Nice to see the 70s tennis apparel brand "Boast" making a come back! Always preferred the tennis whites look on the court!

Waspy? I'd say the class or ethnic associations of tennis have gone the way of the great white elephant, along with golf and (soon) polo. These clothes are nothing more than Ralph Lauren type nostalgia.

Okay, you could say that about a lot of Wasp styles - that they've lost their original rĂ´le.

There are still tennis clubs around which have tennis whites only rules allowed on courts.... I mean the clothing of course.........
