A Scarf Under A Suit - by Richard

Besides the fact that this is a gorgeous charcoal flannel suit, the scarf underneath seems to set off all the other details (fair isle, pocket square, belt, etc). In general, I think this is a good look if the scarf is worn as pictured. Swirling a scarf around one's neck looks extra feminine in my book. I have always thought the item was for pure decoration, and for a little warmth on the back of the neck. However, I highly reccomend silk when pairing with suits or sport coats. It will just feel better against your neck.

I received the newest Spring 2012 Brooks Brothers catalogue in the mail yesterday. They seem to be pushing linen scarves. Why anyone would need wear a scarf in the Spring is beyond me. Although these scarves look very lovely, I think that using the word "lovely" pretty much explains why i will not be wearing such as item.
I agree this is a great look you show today, but the scarf is very feminine....not that there is anything wrong with that.

A nice silk scarf can look excellent when paired with a suit. It's certainly much more formal than your standard striped or tartan piece, but the pattern must be simple as not to give off a dated dandy vibe.
