A New Kind of Preppy
WASP 101 will resume daily posting in a couple weeks, but in the meantime we will try to post as often as possible. We will also gear up and get Preppy Fox off and running again in the next couple weeks. "Kipp" is super excited but she has requested a more feminine design which I will oblige her with.
Today's topic focuses on the new kind of preppy we are currently seeing. To further elaborate, I think this preppy style shows the difference between preppy and WASPy style. Preppiness is open to experimentation where WASPy style is a little more stuffy.
The new trend is mixing rugged looking wear such as the barn jacket pictured above with sport coats and bow ties. Another example would be the camo bow ties floating around, which honestly repulse me. To be honest, I am not sure what I think about this style. Thoughts?

Eh... why not.
I don't like it though. It seems very immature, like wearing camouflage uniform pants when one was never in the army. It's an unnecessary pretense, and it's a little distasteful to the actually working-class. But hey, if you work in a barn when you're not studying hard at Harvard, and have a nasty, smelly, greasy Carhart barn jacket laying around, go ahead and throw it over that nice tweed jacket. Find a swell bow tie to match that perfectly placed stain... you deserve to have all your hard work recognized!
Novel but not tasteful. It's fashion rather than enduring style. Fun for 6 months and then forget it.
Personally, I believe preppy should be timeless. That doesn't mean it's stagnant, it just means new looks should also be just as timeless as the old ones.
I thought Preppy Fox was going to be a separate blog, and you were going back to your old format. Am I mistaken?
Richard,
Please forget about Preppy and let us have more of Ivy/Trad, or WASP, as you prefer to call it.
please: emphasis on things wasp
Ease up on camo bow ties...
What are you going to do Richard now that Ralph Lauren has announced it is going to discontinue Rugby....no more plane trips to Georgetown, I suppose.
