Purple sweaters are seldom seen in the prep world, but they have been a common site this season. In this instance, the purple cashmere sweater pairs very well with the flannel trousers, bow tie, plaid shirt, and braces. Recently, I purchased a purple sweater, and a purple gingham sport shirt. Perhaps, I will unveil them on the blog very soon.

I thought that was a picture of you in the purple sweater; no need to post another.
nice pic, sorry not a wasp and purple is unacceptable.
Sorry, not wasp.
Where is this "common site" where I can catch sight of such purple sweaters?
Another ridiculous getup. Where do you come up with this stuff?
Purple isn't a WASPy color. Also, that get-up is silly.
So purple, the color of royalty isn't WASP. List the colors of the WASP spectrum. See the problem with most of you is you are stuck in the world of "Trad". I am not. Purple in my opinion easily falls in the world of preppy which is a subgroup of WASP
Richard,
What on earth is all this about? Since when do WASPs wear colors based on their royal associations? As the comments point out, purple just isn't a color associated with WASP style. Guess what? Neither is black. Neither is neon anything. None of this is controversial. Everyone knows it. Your odd taxonomy of WASP/Trad/Prep has no basis in actual cultural groups, and is merely a desperate attempt to dodge the criticisms of your post.

Now I'm confused. Is this blog WASP 101, Royalty 101, Trad 101 or Preppy 101? Doesn't matter. Purple still isn't WASPy.
Whoa, Ricky! WASPs just don't wear a lot of purple. No need to get defensive. Avoiding certain colors is a perfectly WASPy thing to do. Take, for example, black. You should know that (along with purple) WASPs generally avoid black. Now before you go getting all angry about that and pulling out some Ralph Lauren advertisement with some kid in a black sweater, just stop and take a few breaths. If you want to wear purple or black or whatever color you want, go right ahead. We're just saying that you might not be doing a very WASPy thing in wearing those colors. That's all.
purple is not preppy and it is not Wasp...it just isn't
Put down the Ralph Lauren catalog, turn off Masterpiece Theatre, and take a walk around. There are, it is true, many terribly dressed people. But there are also some people dressed traditionally and stylishly. Note: they don't dress like the guy in the photo. You don't seem to understand the difference between being dressed well and putting on a Ralph Lauren costume for an advertisement. No self-respecting "wasp" ever dressed in the what you seem to think is classic "wasp" attire.
What prep world are you referring to?
Purple is more of an urban color than a preppy color.
I have a nice purple v-neck sweater that I got at Brooks Brothers (maybe eight years ago). I think it was mislabeled, but I paid about 1/5 of what it should have cost. I love the thing... warm and soft cashmere. I wouldn't fixate on the criticisms here too heavily. Instead of misguidedly attacking purple, why haven't the commenters mentioned that the model looks idiotic with his braces OVER the sweater (which is tucked-in)? Purple is fine.
Would Rugby please just expire already after propagating so much bad taste?!
I always make sure the sweater is tucked into my underwear. But seriously, v-necks are low class.
