Shorty Pants
WASPs and Preps alike have fashioned the tradition of wearing their trousers slightly short. Personally, I like the look and I think men help to lengthen their appearance by sporting their trousers slightly short. However, expect your tailor to fight you on this notion, but stand up for yourself and force them to give in. They are your trousers!

A New Kind of Preppy
WASP 101 will resume daily posting in a couple weeks, but in the meantime we will try to post as often as possible. We will also gear up and get Preppy Fox off and running again in the next couple weeks. "Kipp" is super excited but she has requested a more feminine design which I will oblige her with.
Today's topic focuses on the new kind of preppy we are currently seeing. To further elaborate, I think this preppy style shows the difference between preppy and WASPy style. Preppiness is open to experimentation where WASPy style is a little more stuffy.
The new trend is mixing rugged looking wear such as the barn jacket pictured above with sport coats and bow ties. Another example would be the camo bow ties floating around, which honestly repulse me. To be honest, I am not sure what I think about this style. Thoughts?

My Go To Tie
Recently, my go-to-tie has been my Brooks Brothers navy tie with golden lions crested on it. The tie goes with everything, and it is as or more versatile than my navy and gold repp stripe tie. I must recommend this tie to all aspiring preps/WASPs.
WASP 101 Girl of The Moment - Rosamund Pike
A while back, I discontinued WASP 101 Girl of The Moment to focus on preppy dressed girls. We are not going to ditch Preppy Girl Theatre, but we are going to bring back WASP 101 Girl of The Moment. Today, for our first installment of the sections triumphant return, we focus on Rosamund Pike. The lovely actress was a villianous Bond Girl, and she played in another favorite of mine An Education.

A Man's Bed - by Richard
Photo: Ralph Lauren
A man's bed is his resting place, but it seems that this idea has been long forgotten. All one has to do is to look at most individuals resting place, and you will find a plethora of clothes, rustled sheets and bedding, etc. I also shutter from college memories of my roommates watching some low class show on MTV where Hollywood types gave you a tour of their home. The words, "this is where the magic happens" still repulses me. I don't know if it was the fact that they felt their sexual prowess was magical, or the fact that they felt their bed was a display for the notches on their belt.
For me, my bed is a resting place lined with plaid and crested pillows. It is where I curl up and wind down from a tiring day. And never, ever do I leave home without making my bed. Make your bedroom a sanctuary and you will not regret it.

First Real Brisk Day of Fall - by Richard
Today was the first really chilly day of fall in my area, and I loved it. I pulled out the flannel navy blazer for day wear, and paired it with tweed trousers for church. After church, I had a wonderful meal, and a cozy nap in my bedroom fit for a king.
After the nap, I put on my boots, Barbour Jacket, and cords and took a long walk while smoking my pipe. The afternoon was completed by the fire while listening to Frank Sinatra on Pandora. Today was a pretty good Sunday.

Why So Much Hype About "Ivy Style" Museum at FIT
Recently, many trad/preppy/WASPy blogs have been posting about the "Ivy Style" exhibit. Personally, I am glad there was a tribute paid to an element of WASPy style, but it wasn't really all that great. Many of the Ask Andy/Christian Chensvold goobers who constantly rag Ralph Lauren etc., are now singing praises for an event that essentially dressed dummies in his attire. One exhibit copied Ralphy's ads on purpose. I just don't get it!
Maybe next year, we can have WASP 101 Museum at FIT.

A Great Combo - by Richard
This is a great combination, but my main concern is that the blazer needs brass buttons. Other than that, carry on!

Preppy Hair - by Richard
Preppy hair is not hard to achieve! It simply requires shorter hair on the sides and back with hair parted and swooped to the side. Long sideburns are a no no as well. They should never extend below mid-ear. For formal occasions, you can use some cream to slick your hair back after parting it, but I never do this.
